Endurance swimmer and world record holder Diana Nyad ended her potentially record-breaking journey shortly before 1:00 am early this morning.
Nyad, 61, attempted to be the first person to swim from Cuba to the US without a shark cage, a distance of 103 miles.
Throughout her swim she battled a shoulder injury, asthma, huge waves, and bad weather.
Approximately 29 hours after leaving Havana, Nyad started vomiting and decided that she could no longer go on.
Nyad's incredible journey - from her training through her arrival in Key West, Florida - will be featured in our upcoming CNN Presents documentary, reported by Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Saturday September 17 at 8:00 pm ET.
